Abortion: Let’s Change the Debate
Abortion advocates and abortion opponents have allowed themselves to be labeled, respectively, as pro choice and pro life. This distinction is extremely divisive and, in my opinion, inaccurate. One of the fundamental purposes of government is to protect life. Everyone would agree that, at some point between conception and birth, there is clearly a human life. At that point, the government’s role is to protect that life (while recognizing that there are still legitimate issues, such as when the mother’s health is at risk). Why don’t we change the tenor of the debate by recognizing that the real debate is about when life begins?
